Dog of Mine, Quit Digging

20120823-140938.jpg

Dog of mine
why do you dig
with fervent
lust
searching
the friable earth
separating
loam
face down
in the hole
rapt.
Is there another
world
you seek?
A pinpoint
of light
peering
through the dark
begging
to be
discovered.
And when you find
this worldly
other
(and somehow I think you might)
What then?
On your arrival
you’ll be lost.
Friendless.
Starting all over
again.
Dog of mine
why do you dig?
Consider
staying here
a while
longer
a place where
you’re loved more
deeply
than
any

escape

route.
