Gwendolyn at the Roulette Wheel

Kaleidoscope

Her heart sat at the table
Because she was told to have
A little trust

Place your bets

She took a breath
Straight up
And all in

While Fortuna’s wheel spun
And it spun
For years

The rolling sound of the pretty
Glass marble
Did soothe

Her ears became
Tuned to it
Her eyes became lost in it—

Until the click
Of the ball,
Encapsulating wishes,

Decided.
